There is a question that comes up almost every week at Chandee , usually typed into our chat, sometimes whispered at the front desk with a slightly worried look: I have just had my hair coloured. Can I still come in for a head spa?
The short answer is yes. The slightly longer answer is: yes, with a little timing and a conversation with your therapist. Here is everything you actually need to know.
Why People Worry and Why the Worry Makes Sense
If you have ever invested in a good colour, a keratin treatment, or hours of careful bleaching, you know how protective you feel about your hair afterward. The idea of steam, water, and products touching freshly processed strands can feel like a risk not worth taking.
And honestly? That instinct is not wrong, it is just slightly misdirected. The concern is not really about head spas in general. It is about timing and products. Get those two things right, and a head spa does not just become safe for treated hair, it can actually be one of the kindest things you do for it.
The Golden Rule: Wait 48 to 72 Hours
Regardless of whether you have coloured, bleached, permed, relaxed, or had a keratin bond treatment, the rule is the same: wait at least 48 to 72 hours before having a head and hair spa.
Here is why. When colour or chemical treatments are applied to hair, the cuticle, the outermost protective layer of each strand , is temporarily lifted to allow the product to penetrate. It takes time for the cuticle to fully close and for colour molecules to settle and bond within the hair shaft. During that window, the hair is more porous and more reactive than usual.
Water, heat, and even gentle cleansing during this period can accelerate colour fading, cause uneven toning, or simply stress hair that has already been through a lot. None of that is what we want for you or for your hair.
Wait the full window. Then come in.

What About Bleached or Heavily Damaged Hair?
Bleached hair deserves its own section, because it operates differently from colour-treated hair. Bleaching does not deposit colour, it removes pigment by breaking open the hair structure at a chemical level. The result is hair that is, by definition, more fragile, more porous, and more thirsty than it was before.
The good news is that this is exactly where a thoughtful head spa can help rather than harm.
At Chandee, the head spa ritual includes a deep cleanse followed by conditioning care and for guests with bleached or significantly damaged hair, that conditioning element is not just nice to have, it is genuinely beneficial. Moisture restoration, improved texture, and softness are some of the most consistent outcomes for guests who come in with dry, porous, or over-processed strands.
The key is communication. Let your therapist know before the session begins. A brief scalp consultation is built into the Chandee ritual anyway, this is exactly the moment to mention recent chemical treatments, current hair condition, or anything your hair has been through lately. Your therapist will adjust the cleansing approach accordingly, using a lighter touch where needed and focusing on moisture rather than deep cleanse.

The Products Matter as Much as the Timing
Not all head spas use the same products. Some use formulations that are perfectly fine for untreated hair but contain clarifying or stripping agents that can be harsh on chemically processed strands.
At Chandee, the head spa ritual uses organic Yves Rocher shampoo, a gentle, plant-based formulation that cleanses without compromising colour or stressing damaged hair. There are no harsh sulphates or industrial clarifiers in the mix. The cleanse is effective but considerate, which is exactly what processed hair needs.
This matters most for those with vivid or fashion colours think pastels, reds, or blue-black tones which tend to be the most vulnerable to fading from any kind of wash. Even with gentle products, if you have just left the salon the day before, wait. If you are 72 hours out and the colour is settled, you are in good hands.
What to Tell Your Therapist and When
The Chandee head spa begins with a brief consultation before the ritual starts. This is your moment. You do not need a formal list of every product ever applied to your hair but it helps to mention the following: whether you have had any colour, bleach, keratin, relaxer, or perm within the past two weeks; whether your hair is currently feeling dry, brittle, or particularly fragile; whether you have extensions bonded, tape-in, or clip-in – which come with their own considerations; and whether any part of your scalp feels sensitive or irritated.
With that context, your therapist can make small adjustments that make a significant difference less direct heat, a more diluted cleanse, extra focus on the conditioning phase, or a gentler approach to scalp massage pressure.

A Note on Hair Extensions
If you are coming in with extensions , whether bonded, tape-in, or weave – the head spa is still absolutely possible, but a few things are worth knowing in advance.
Extensions require more time and more careful technique during the washing and drying phases of the ritual. For this reason, we recommend booking the 90-minute version of the head spa rather than the 60-minute option if you have extensions. There is a small surcharge that applies depending on length: +300 THB for extensions reaching up to the shoulder blades, and +500 THB for lengths below. This covers the additional care and time involved.
Let the team know when you book, and there will be no surprises on the day.
A Practical Timing Guide for Bangkok Visitors
If you are in Bangkok for only a few days and have just had your hair done, here is a timeline worth keeping in mind.
Colour or toner applied on a Monday? You are clear for a head spa from Wednesday evening onward. Chandee is open until 11 PM, which means even a late-night slot works, no need to sacrifice a daytime activity for it.
Keratin treatment on Sunday? Wait until Tuesday at the earliest, Wednesday to be safe. Keratin bonds continue setting for up to 72 hours and do not respond well to water or steam before they are fully cured.
Bleach on Saturday, heading home Thursday? You have a comfortable window mid-week. This is actually an ideal scenario, enough time has passed that your hair is stable, and the conditioning phase of the 17-step Ring of Water ritual will help restore some of the moisture that bleaching depletes.
Head Spa as Hair Care, Not Hair Risk
There is a lingering idea that head spas are incompatible with chemically treated hair that water and massage are somehow threats to colour or keratin. This framing gets it almost exactly backwards.
A well-executed head spa, with the right products and a therapist who understands your hair history, is a form of maintenance rather than a stress. Scalp circulation improves. Product buildup is cleared gently. Conditioned hair sits better, feels softer, and is more manageable in the days that follow. For bleached or damaged hair in particular, restoring moisture is one of the most productive things you can do between salon visits.
The ritual at Chandee is not designed to strip or clarify it is designed to restore. That philosophy shows up in the product choices, in the consultation process, and in the way each session is tailored rather than templated.
Quick Checklist Before You Book
Before you reserve your session, run through this:
Has it been at least 48 to 72 hours since your last colour, bleach, or chemical treatment? If yes, you are good to go. If not, hold off a little longer – your colour will thank you. Do you have extensions? Mention this when booking and plan for the 90-minute option. Is your hair particularly fragile right now? Note it in your booking, or simply tell your therapist at the consultation – they will adjust the approach.
Everything else, scalp type, hair length, how recently you washed before coming in – the team will work with on the day.
The starry ceiling, the water sounds, the organic lather, the deep stillness of the ritual – all of it is available to you, whether your hair is natural, coloured, bleached, or somewhere in between. You just need to give your hair a little time to settle first.
Chandee Sleep Salon is open daily until 11 PM at Silom, with a second location opening soon at Sukhumvit 39. Book online at chandee.com or drop in when the city finally lets you breathe.
