Hair Extensions & Your Head Spa: Everything You Need to Know Before Your Visit

Hair extensions at Chandee have a small surcharge, due to complexity in handling

At Chandee, everyone is welcome – including you and your extensions.

If you have hair extensions and you’ve been wondering whether a head spa is still an option for you, the short answer is: absolutely yes. We love welcoming guests with all hair types, all lengths, and yes – extensions too.

But we’d be doing you a disservice if we didn’t explain how we approach your treatment differently, why a small surcharge applies, and what we’d recommend to make sure you leave feeling completely relaxed – with your extensions still intact.

Why Extensions Need Extra Care During a Head Spa

A head spa isn’t just a relaxing scalp massage. At Chandee, our signature 17-step Vietnamese ritual involves wetting, washing, massaging, and drying your hair from root to tip. That’s a wonderful thing for natural hair – but extensions introduce a layer of complexity that requires real care and skill from your therapist.

Here’s what makes extensions different:

Washing requires a modified technique. With extensions, your therapist cannot use the same flowing circular motions used on natural hair. Scrubbing around bonds, tape, or rings – even gently – can loosen the attachment points and cause slippage. Instead, we use gentle downward strokes only, working the shampoo from roots to tips without disturbing the connection points.

Drying takes significantly longer. Extensions, especially longer ones that fall below the shoulder blades, must be dried thoroughly at the root. Leaving extension bonds even slightly damp creates risk – moisture weakens adhesive bonds over time and can lead to matting or slippage. Our therapist needs to ensure your extensions are fully dry before you leave, which adds meaningful time to the session.

Some of our usual tools can’t be used. Our electric scalp massager and the metal wire “claw” massager – both favourites in our regular treatments – cannot be safely used on extensions. The rotating heads and fine metal prongs can catch on bonds and wefts and cause damage. Instead, your therapist will use gentle hand massage and, where needed, a wide-tooth wooden comb, applied with extra care from the ends upward.

4 types of scalp massagers

The scalp massage itself is adapted. With certain extension types, particularly tape-ins or multi-row wefts, access to the scalp is partially restricted. Your therapist will still deliver a deeply relaxing scalp experience, but they work more carefully around attachment points to protect both your extensions and your natural hair underneath.

Why We Recommend Booking 90 Minutes or More

According to hair wonderland, hair extensions require careful washing and gentle handling to avoid tangling or damaging the attachment points, which is why treatments often take longer than natural hair alone. This is something we feel strongly about and we want to be upfront with you before you arrive.

At Chandee, we never charge extra for natural long or thick hair. Extensions are a different situation entirely, because the drying process alone adds around 15 minutes to your session regardless of the treatment length. Here’s what that means in practice:

In a 60-minute booking, approximately 15 minutes goes toward careful drying – leaving around 45 minutes for the actual treatment. For most guests with extensions, this can feel a little rushed, and we wouldn’t want that.

In a 90-minute booking, you still have around 75 minutes of genuine treatment time – enough to experience the full relaxation and scalp care that Chandee is known for.

We want your time with us to be truly restorative. Booking 90 minutes or longer is the best way to make sure it is. Our cashier is always happy to help you choose the right session length when you arrive or when you book.

The Hair Extension Surcharge – Explained

We apply a small surcharge for guests with extensions because the additional handling, adapted technique, and extended drying time represent real extra work from your therapist. This isn’t about anything other than being honest and fair.

The surcharge is:

  • +300 THB for extensions at or above the shoulder blades (moderate extra handling and drying time)
  • +500 THB for extensions below the shoulder blades (longer drying time and more careful technique required throughout)

Your cashier will confirm the correct surcharge with you before your treatment begins – there are no surprises at checkout.

What to Expect During Your Visit

When you book or arrive, you’ll be asked whether you have hair extensions. This is simply so we can assign the right therapist, allocate the right amount of time, and make sure everything is prepared to give you the best possible experience.

Your therapist will:

  • Gently detangle your hair before washing, starting from the ends and working upward
  • Use downward washing strokes only – never circular scrubbing near bonds
  • Avoid using the electric scalp massager or wire claw tool, substituting hand massage and a wide-tooth comb instead
  • Dry your extensions thoroughly, paying close attention to the root area, using low heat settings
  • Work around your attachment points with care throughout the scalp massage

You’re in good hands. We simply want to make sure your extensions are in equally good hands too.

A Note on Extension Types

Whether you have tape-ins, keratin bonds, nano rings, clip-ins, or wefts – our approach is the same: gentle, careful, and adapted to protect your investment. If you’re unsure about anything specific to your extension type, feel free to message us on WhatsApp or LINE before your appointment. We’re always happy to talk it through.
